In and Around - The John Strong House

In and Around - The John Strong House

Strong ties that bind...

A few hundred years ago, in 1795 to be precise, John Strong, originally from Salisbury, CT, build a brick/stone house in Addison, VT. He had settled there in 1765 and was now established as a respected judge in the area. The John Strong House is located on the grounds of the DAR State Park in Addison, as are the remains of the wooden cabin he first built for his family. Mary's grandmother, Harriet Tuthill Dickerson, descends from General Strong. (Her grandmother, Sally Strong Tuthill, was the granddaughter of John Strong.)

We didn't go inside the house, but were able to get some nice shots of the outside on a lovely summer day a few years ago. There are a few cemeteries nearby, including Lakeview, where one can find members of the quite large Strong family. As you might imagine there are a bunch of Johns, though we did not get to General Strong's grave.
