In and Around - NW Connecticut
Old New England on a Bright Day
We drove down Route 7 through Sheffield, MA and into NW Connecticut. Our day trip took us along the Housatonic River. We jogged over the hills north of Kent and down into the New Preston, Washington valley. Just up the hill from Washington Depot is Washington proper, home of The Gunnery School and a perfectly maintained New England town green. The Episcopal church there has recently undergone major exterior renovations, and looked stunning. Note the Witch Hazel growing on warm corner!
We had lunch at The Pantry in Washington, and returned home via Warren (another lovely green) and West Cornwall (St. Brigid RC Church by the river). Following the still used train tracks along the river took us back to a nearly forgotten era.
