In and Around - Bennington Battlefield and environs
The Turning Point of the American Revolution
August 16th, 1777. The British Colonel Baum led a force to a hill just north of Bennington, the aim being to secure the supplies stored in Bennington. The Americans, led by Colonel John Stark were ready and waiting. The attempt to crush Albany in a pincer move from north and south failed. High drama on this now peaceful hill. Drive-in drama just downstream on the Walloomsic River at Hathaways.
